Improving Your Wireless Network Range

Going online and using the Internet in our homes is a common thing now. A home without a computer and Internet access, for some, would feel about as convenient as a home without windows. After all, the Internet really is just a window into the world, and one we've become accustomed to looking through any old time we please.

Going online has so become so convenient that having a cable connected to the computer is soon becoming a thing of the past. Wireless networks have made it possible for every home to have Internet access throughout the home, all sent by signals, without the need to connect through a cable.

Though the wireless network has proven very efficient and practical and given many benefits at home, it is not without its disadvantages. The range the network covers is sometimes inadequate, or the signal is not strong enough in some areas of the network. There are a few things that can be done to try and solve these problems.

Your wireless network range concentrates within the area of the router. This is the central point, and all access radiates out from this point.

So it is advisable to locate your router in the best central location possible. Position it so that it is not hampered by obstructions, such as plaster or brick walls, and wave emitting devices such as a microwave or cordless phone. Also, make sure this point avoids radio interference. You might also consider changing the WiFi channel number.
If necessary you can add an additional router to give you a range twice as big as with a single router.
Try a more powerful antenna for your router.
You can get a bi-directional WiFi amplifier or signal booster, to attach to the router.
Get a WiFi repeater, which is placed within range of the router and relays the signal . This means that someone out of range of the router, but within range of the repeater would still have access to the network.

Given all these guidelines will let you improve your wireless network range and have Internet access from parts of your home or work place where it was previously difficult or impossible to get a signal, improving your convenience and productivity.

The make up of most wireless networks are configured to have a fairly small range, the guidelines mentioned above can help you to increase that range. If you suspect that it will take more than these measures to achieve the amount of range you desire, it may be a good time to look into a different type of network that is meant for a larger scale and greater usage.
